2. Compared with poems, stories usually have longer passages.
和诗相比,故事通常有更长的段落。
compare此处用作不及物动词,意为“比较”。
辨析:compare ... with ... 与compare ... to ...
compare ... with ... 把······与 ······相比
compare ... to ... 把······与······相比;把······比作······
He compared his handwriting with/to mine.
他把自己的书写和我的作比较。
Books can be compared to friends. 书籍可被比喻成朋友。
3. Although a poem has fewer words, it’s not always easier to write.
虽然诗有较少的单词,但是写起来并不总是容易的。
although 连词,意为“虽然,尽管;不过,然而”,与 though意思相同,引导让步状语从句。
注意:although/though与but不能连用,但可以与yet、still等词连用。
Although it was hard to finish this task, we made it in time.
虽然完成这项任务很难,但我们还是按时完成了。
4. Sometimes writing less takes more effort than writing more.
有时,写得少比写得多要付出更多的努力。
effort 名词,意为“精力,努力”。 常用搭配:
make an effort to do sth.意为“努力做某事”;put effort into ... 意为“投入精力于······”。
I will make an effort to find out more information.
我将尽力找出更多信息。
5. Like it’s calling me aloud to eat!
好像在大声呼唤我享用!
aloud 副词,意为“大声地”,指为使人能听见而发声,常与read,speak等动词连用。
He read the text aloud this morning. 他早上朗读了课文。
注意: aloud没有比较等级。
