剧情简介
时间来到1979年。第二代教父迈克尔·柯里昂（阿尔·帕西诺饰）已步入晚年。为了寻求救赎，迈克尔逐渐结束了家族的犯罪活动，转而从事合法生意。迈克尔的儿子托尼是一位艺术爱好者，对继承家族生意毫无兴趣。迈克尔决定让哥哥桑尼的私生子，脾气暴躁、风流成性的文森特（安迪·加西亚饰）继承家族企业，成为第三代教父。迈克尔心爱的女儿玛丽（索菲亚·科波拉饰）爱上了文森特，但遭到父亲的反对，父女俩的关系也逐渐疏远。为了使家族资产合法化，迈克尔计划利用他在梵蒂冈的人脉投资“坚守阵地”集团，却遭到仇敌的暗中阻挠。教皇的去世更是让事态雪上加霜。走投无路的迈克尔被迫再次诉诸暴力，将他的家人也拖入了这场血腥冲突。
